Coronavirus - be prepared for anything

The history of mankind shows that it is worth being ready for any eventuality. Especially now, when we are dealing with the spreading coronavirus epidemic. There are known cases of introducing quarantine in Italy and, above all, in China, i.e. where the possibility of contracting a new virus is at an increased level. Of course, don't panic, just act wisely. That is why we decided to prepare a list of the most necessary things that you should have with you in case of introducing home quarantine.

In this article you will learn:

  • what is coronavirus,
  • what to do to reduce the chance of infection,
  • what products to equip yourself with just in case.

Coronavirus - SARS-CoV-2

The first cases of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (because that is the name of the virus we are dealing with at the moment) were reported in China, in the city of Wuhan. From there, it began to spread to the rest of the world. The virus is dangerous to humans due to its high contagiousness. The elderly and people with reduced immunity are particularly vulnerable. You can get infected with it via droplets.

The virus causes a disease called COVID-19. Symptoms to watch out for are high fever, cough, shortness of breath and muscle aches. Therefore, if you have been to mainland China or the northern part of Italy and have the above symptoms, you should visit the nearest infectious diseases ward and wear a surgical mask. Thanks to this, your loved ones and other people around you will avoid infection.

You do not want to get infected - keep basic personal hygiene!

This is the most effective method to reduce your chance of contracting the coronavirus. Wash your hands frequently with soap or another disinfectant, cover your mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Also, avoid contact with people who may have flu-like symptoms. First of all, avoid places where there is an epidemic, such as China and Northern Italy. It is worthwhile to approach any information you provide with common sense and calmness. Let's not panic!

Get ready for anything

Of course, there may be times when you are forced into home quarantine. Therefore, just in case, you should be prepared for such an eventuality. The German Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance Office has published a list of products that are worth having at home.

From food products, it is worth having 20 liters of water, because water is the basis of all life and drinking it is very important for the human body. In addition to water, equip yourself with 3.5 kg of cereal products, including pasta, rice, flour. Another important product is canned or jarred fruit and nuts - 2.5 kg should be enough. 4 kg of dry legumes and vegetables in cans or jars. 0.4 kg of fat and oil, so that you can prepare meals. 2.6 kg of milk and other dairy products and 1.5 kg of meat, fish and eggs. Such a set will last for 10 days, assuming that you will provide 2200 kcal a day.

Other important products that you should have with you are the necessary medications, so that you have enough of them for the 10 days. An important thing is the handy first aid kit, thanks to which you will have all the necessary first aid items with you in case of injury or burns. Candles, matches or lighters are also extremely important, because you need to have something to light the gas stove. If necessary, it is also worth having a camping stove with fuel, you never know what the situation will arise. The basic slogan of any self-respecting preppers is "Be ready for anything!". Collect spare batteries and disinfectants. You must be sure that the set you collect will allow you to survive 10 days without leaving your home.

Let's remember to use common sense in this whole information storm. The main thing is not to panic. Prophylactically follow the recommendations of taking care of hygiene. Let us be prepared for various eventualities.
